Discover the hidden side of some common Iowa plants, stones, birds and beasts. During this Halloween season, learn about traditional folk magic practices involving natural phenomena. We will also discuss how to incorporate some of these practices into your life as a way of deepening your relationship with the natural world.

Introduction to Folk Herbalism

Learn some common plants of Western Iowa's woods and fields and how these plants were used historically for medicinal purposes. During this event we will engage in a walking discussion of traditional plant medicines.
There will also be a short demonstration of some of the different methods used to make medicines with these plants.

Elderberry Workshop

Demonstration and recipes for elderberry syrup, oxymel, tincture and elixir. Each participant gets a pint of elderberry syrup made from locally-harvested elderberries and raw local honey to take home.
