Wabash Trace Nature Trail - Malvern to Imogene

Noon-9:00pm (Optional camping overnight through the morning of Sunday, October 29).
Cost: $10 for roundtrip bike ride, or $15 if doing hayrack back from Imogene (you must register in advance for hayrack ride as space is limited!).

This is a combination bicyle ride, hayrack ride, historical ghost town tour, campout, and Haunted House excursion.
We will begin the day at Noon in Malvern. We will gather at the Malvern Manor for an optional tour of the paranormal to start the excursion off (cost for Malvern Manor is $10). The main part of the tour will be via bicycle, but we will have a map forthcoming so that if people would like to join us walking, they can drive to the nearest intersections and then take the trail. Between Malvern and Imogene are the four ghost towns of White Cloud, Lawrence, Strahan, and Solomon. In White Cloud, the Sayers family has remnants of the old Mill and will provide information about this former railroad town on the West Nishnabotna River. Just a short distance from there is Lawrence, at the 'Skinny Bridge', the town that took away much of White Cloud's thunder when the second railroad came through. In Strahan, you can still see some of the original town and we will have input from the Mills County Historical Society about the settlement. In Solomon you can see the new box culvert that replaced the former bridge under 390th (Old Highway 59). Once you arrive in Imogene, tour the Historic St. Patrick Church and historical sites around town. A hayrack ride will be available from Imogene to Malvern, but space is limited on the hayrack so sign up early to ensure your spot. The route is 13 miles one way, so 26 miles roundtrip if you aren't riding the hayrack from Imogene to Malvern. Dinner will be on your own at the Classic Cafe or C&M's Cafe in Malvern. We will gather back at Project Art Church for spooky storytelling, and then we will trek over to the fairgrounds for the acclaimed Gateway of Chaos professional Haunted House (additional $10 admission fee). Return to the trailhead for campfire and camping for those interested (tent camping is $10).
Please bring bicycle lights if riding roundtrip. Riders will be expected to keep about a 10mph pace in order to keep the event on time. Upon returning to Malvern, participants will have a variety of activities available. Project Art Church and other businesses in Malvern will be open during the evening. Please bring cash or check, as we will not be able to process cards. ATMs are available in Malvern if you need to get cash.

12:00pm: Malvern Manor tour ($10). Address is 103 E 3rd St.
1:00pm. Ghost Town Tour Riders meet outside Malvern Manor and depart for Ghost Town Tour ($10 for roundtrip ride or $15 if taking hayrack back).
1:30pm: White Cloud. Local resident Cindy Sayers will discuss an Old Mill that was located in White Cloud, including relics and diary entries from the area.
2:00pm: Lawrence. Brief discussion of this Ghost Town's history.
2:30pm: Strahan. Mills County resident Lana White will discuss Strahan’s history. We will meet inside the Strahan United Methodist Church. Refreshments will be available at the church.
3:00pm: Solomon. Stephen Hunt from the Mills County Historical Museum in Glenwood will describe Solomon’s history.
3:30pm: Imogene (Tours at St. Patrick's Catholic Church available between 3:30 and 4:00).
4:30pm: Hayrack will leave Imogene.
6:00pm: Hayrack returns to Malvern. Dinner is available on your own at local restaurants.
7:30pm: Spooky Storytelling by candlelight at the Art Church (201 E 4th St). Storytellers include Kelly Carey, Joe Skahill, and Carol Brehmer.
8:00-11:00pm: Gateway of Chaos Haunted House is open at the Mills County Fairgrounds (61334 315th St.)
