Lace up your boots (you’ll need to!) and join other hiking enthusiasts for this one-of-a-kind experience in the Loess Hills. Brent Olson was a friend to all who enjoyed the outdoors, and we invite you to this dedication in his name

Brent's Trail is an 8-mile hiking trail connecting Murray Hill Scenic Overlook, Loess Hills State Forest, and Gleason-Hubel Wildlife Area. The trail is named after longtime state forester Brent Olson. The trail is a partnership between Harrison County Conservation Board and Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Other partners and supporters include Friends of the Loess Hills State Forest and Preparation Canyon State Park, Loess Hills Missouri River Region, Golden Hills RC&D, and Loess Hills Alliance.

Please arrive by 9am on Saturday, June 8. Parking will be located at the base of Murray Hill, and participants will be shuttled to the Murray Hill parking lot on Easton Trail (only handicapped accessible parking will available for those who need it at the Murray Hill Parking lot--all others should follow signs for designated parking area down the hill).

Welcome and dedication will begin at 9:00, with optional hikes starting from Murray Hill at 9:30. Hikers may hike half the route (about 4 miles) ending at 138th Trail, or the full route (about 8 miles) ending at Gleason-Hubel. Shuttles will be available from the halfway and end points back to the parking area. The full hike will likely take a few hours, so plan on spending most of the day if you want to experience all of Brent's Trail!

Please note that this is a rugged (read: NOT easy!) hike on dirt and grass surfaces. Proper shoes, clothing, water, snacks, bug spray, and sun repellent are required if hiking. A sack lunch is recommended if you plan to hike the whole trail.

Event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available.
