To celebrate the addition of the Little Sioux Scout Ranch to the Loess Hills State Forest, Golden Hills is organizing an overnight camp-out on Friday, September 26, with a guided hike to follow on Saturday, September 27.
Join INHF, the Iowa DNR, and others at the ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, September 26 at 2pm, with camp set-up following the ceremony. If you cannot make the ceremony, you are still welcome to join the overnight camp-out. The hike will be on Saturday morning, beginning and ending at the Little Sioux Scout Ranch.
Unlike a traditional LoHi Trek, the LoHi Scout is a self-supported outing. Participants will need to bring their own gear (tent, backpack, cook stove, etc.), as well as food, snacks, and water for Friday and Saturday. Water will be available at refilling stations along the route. Portable toilets will be available for use near the location of the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The route is being finalized, but expect to hike a minimum of eight miles over rugged terrain. Hikers seeking a shorter hike will have opportunities to take a short-cut or be picked up at pre-determined locations along the route. Route maps will be available, as well as the GPX file of the route upon request.
Cost is $20 for the LoHi Scout, plus Eventbrite fees.
Please register by Wednesday, September 24 so that we can send maps of the route.
We are not offering partial registrations. Refunds only in the event of weather cancellation. No dogs, please.
