Join us for an educational event and paddle on the West Nishnabotna to learn about water quality. Jamie Benning, Water Quality Program Manager with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, will discuss water quality and do some water quality testing on the river. She develops and delivers water quality and soil conservation programs and collaborates with researchers and extension specialists to create science-based education opportunities and materials to meet stakeholder needs. Benning works with external partners and stakeholders to support water quality improvement efforts throughout the state. Collaboration outcomes have included the development of the Iowa Watershed Academy and RetaiN nitrate testing kit program. Benning obtained a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy and master’s degree in Soil Science, both from Iowa State University and has 15 years of experience in multi-disciplinary research and extension projects focusing on water quality, watershed management, farmer-leadership, soil quality, and nutrient management.
