The following specific criteria
apply for Hungry Canyons cost share
eligibility: |

| |
a. |
To be funded by Hungry Canyons a
project must: |
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
i. |
Protect infrastructure with public
benefit |
| |
|
ii. |
Be sponsored by a county with
membership in the Hungry Canyons
Alliance |
| |
|
iii. |
Be located on a stream which is
actively degrading |
| |
|
iv. |
Provide grade stabilization to the
streambed. |
| |
|
v. |
Show that the costs do not outweigh
the benefits. |
| |
|
vi. |
Be such that future maintenance,
which is the responsibility of the
applicant, is kept to a minimum. |
| |
|
vii. |
Have an engineering plan and
specifications sealed by a licensed PE
in the State of Iowa. |
| |
|
|
| |
b. |
The following will not be
allowed for Hungry Canyons cost share: |
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
i. |
Bank stabilization projects without
grade stabilization components. |
| |
|
ii. |
Infrastructure replacement or
maintenance. This includes grade
stabilization components attached
directly to infrastructure such as drop
inlets or flume outlets. |
| |
|
|
| |
c. |
To be funded by the Small Structures
Program for Individual Landowners a
project must: |
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
i. |
Protect cropland, private
infrastructure, or provide other benefit
to the landowner. |
| |
|
ii. |
Be sponsored by a resident of a
county with membership in the HCA. |
| |
|
iii. |
Be located on a steam or waterway
which is actively degrading. |
| |
|
iv. |
Provide grade stabilization to the
streambed or waterway. |
| |
|
v. |
Show that the costs do not outweigh
the benefits. |
| |
|
vi. |
Be such that future maintenance,
which is the responsibility of hte
applicant, is kept to a minimum. |
| |
|
vii. |
For smaller structures which are
NRCS Engineering Job Approval Class II
or less landowners and contractors will
be allowed to present ideas and concepts
for potential structures without the
approval of an engineer.
NOTE: A project will meet
Engineering Job Class II or less as long
as the following conditions are not
exceeded:
| 10 foot effective fill
height |
18 inch pipe diameter |
| 40 acre drainage area |
4 foot drop for open
spillways |
If the project falls between NRCS
Engineering Job Class II and IV, the
landowners should ask for assistance
from the local NRCS office. NRCS
will provide free assistance with
design, plans and specifications, and
construction inspection of the project.
If the project exceeds Job Class IV it
will not be eligible for cost share
under the small structures program.
NOTE: a project will meet
Engineering Job Class IV or less as long
as the following conditions are not
exceeded:

6 to 10 foot drop for open
spillways |

Have an engineering plan and
specifications sealed by a licensed PE
in the State of Iowa or approved by an
NRCS employee with appropriate
Engineering Job Approval Authority if
the Job Approval Class is greater than
