Board of Directors

​Golden Hills' Board of Directors represent all eight Southwest Iowa counties and make important decisions to guide the organization.

Steve Baier
​Chair

Steve is a former teacher and farmer near Griswold. He is a Cass County Supervisor and also serves on the boards of Healthy Cass County, Hungry Canyons Alliance, East Nishnabotna Watershed Coalition, and more. ​

Susan Miller
Treasurer & Secretary

Susan currently serves on the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors. Committee assignments, in addition to Golden Hills, include Western Iowa Development Association (WIDA) and Hungry Canyons Alliance.
Previous board service included the Iowa West Foundation Board of Directors from 2007 to 2022, and the Carson City Council from 2001 to 2005.
She and her husband, Randy, live in Carson, where they volunteer countless hours for their community and church. They have two sons and two grandchildren. Susan is currently President of the Carson Business Club.

Brian Rife
Brian began his term as Harrison County Supervisor in 2023. Prior to being elected to this office, he served 6 years on city council followed by 6 years as mayor of Mondamin. He also served on Harrison County Emergency Management Agency and vice chair of Harrison County 911. Brian was instrumental in starting the West Harrison Teammates chapter and served as their Vice Chair. He has served on the Mondamin Volunteer Fire Department since 2009 and is currently serving his 2nd term as Fire Chief. 

Brian works on his family farm with his dad, growing corn and soybeans. He also owns a small trucking company hauling grain, seed and pesticides, and owns a Beck's Hybrids seed dealership. 
 
Brian and his wife Lacie live in Mondamin with their 3 children. They are members of the Mondamin Church of Christ.

Beau Boeye
Beau lives in Red Oak and represents Montgomery County. Beau works in Information Technology and has been very active with many community organizations.

He started his IT journey as an assistant IT director for the Red Oak Community School District when he was a freshman in high school. After a stint in organic farming, he started Boeye Tech & Design, offering I.T. services throughout Southwest Iowa.

Beau is currently involved with Friends of the Red Oak Trails. Beau, his wife Anna, and their two kids, are restoring three buildings in Red Oak's historic downtown. They recently opened an event venue and are now working towards opening a coffeehaus in downtown Red Oak.

Jack Sayers
Jack is a resident of Henderson, Iowa—a small, tight-knit community in Mills County. Elected to the Mills County Board of Supervisors in 2024, Jack is committed to promoting responsible growth, strengthening rural infrastructure, and ensuring effective, transparent county governance.

While in high school, Jack gained valuable experience in public service by working for Iowa House Majority Leader Matt Windschitl and the U.S. Senate Republican Conference in 2023, followed by work with Iowa House Appropriations Chairman Gary Mohr in 2024. A 2024 graduate of East Mills High School, Jack is currently pursuing his undergraduate studies at Clarkson College.

Peter Johnson
Peter Johnson, originally from Sidney, Iowa, currently serves as the elected Fremont County Attorney in Iowa. Prior to his current term as Fremont County Attorney, Peter served as Mayor of Sidney, Iowa from 2020 to 2022. 
 
Peter holds a law degree from Creighton University School of Law, where he also earned a Master of Science in Government Organization and Leadership. Prior to this, Peter graduated from the University of Iowa.

Rick Finch
Rick Finch lives in Clarinda, Iowa with his wife Beckie and represents Page County. He works in sales, marketing, and contracting for EZ Way, Inc., a Clarinda-based manufacturer of safe patient handling equipment.
 
Previously, Rick spent 18 years in the outdoor museum field, primarily in executive director roles, where he focused on education, community engagement, and place-based history.
 
Rick is active in community leadership, having served in multiple Kiwanis roles, including Lieutenant Governor. He also serves on the Clarinda Tourism Committee and the board of Clarinda Outdoor Recreation and Engagement, Inc. His  interests include local and regional history, hiking, and the natural and cultural history of the Loess Hills and the Southern Iowa Drift Plain.

Amy Brown
​Amy Brown is an Iowa native with deep roots in the Loess Hills, where she and her husband, Dwayne, steward 150 acres of prairie and woodland. She brings 25 years of leadership experience from the financial services industry, currently serves as treasurer for Better Ballot Iowa, a nonpartisan organization advancing election reform, and is a former co-owner and editor of Edible Omaha, a magazine supporting local food systems. Her volunteer and board service includes United Way of the Midlands, Habitat for Humanity, Big Canvas Comedy, Red Barn Schoolhouse, and CASA of Douglas County. She holds a BS in Economics and Finance from Morningside University and is a graduate of Leadership Council Bluffs.
