Bike-Friendly Community Application Support

Golden Hills staff are looking for three communities to pilot the Bicycle Friendly Community program in Southwest Iowa. We will help city leaders work on improving bikeability in preparation for application to the program in Fall 2018. We will also help the three pilot communities develop Bicycle Friendly Business programs.

According to the League of American Bicyclists, "The Bicycle Friendly Community program provides a roadmap to improving conditions for bicycling and guidance to help make your community's vision for a better, bikeable community a reality. [...] A BFC welcomes bicyclists by providing safe accommodations for bicycling and encouraging people to bike for transportation and recreation. Making bicycling safe and convenient are keys to improving public health, reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality and improving quality of life." The Bicycle Friendly Community program focuses on several important aspects of bikeability, including education, encouragement, enforcement, evaluation, and planning.

If your community is interested in becoming a Bicycle Friendly Community, fill out the form below or click here to open it in a new tab. Applications are due February 28, 2018. Communities will be notified by March 16. If your community is selected, we will work with you to write and submit an application before August 9, 2018, when applications are due to the Bike League. We will also help develop a Bicycle Friendly Business program in your community in 2018.
